jc blog - tales of a modern-day nomadic hunter-gatherer

Follow jcomeau_ictx on Twitter This is the weblog of Intrepid Wanderer. You never know what you might find here; graphic descriptions of bodily functions, computer programming secrets, proselytizing for the antichrist, miscellaneous ranting and kvetching, valuable information on living off the land... if you don't share my rather weird interests you may want to try slashdot instead.

You can consider my Del.icio.us links an extension to my blog, as are my LifeTango goals and my other to-do items. My to-buy list is also public, but only for sharing any useful ideas that might be there; I'm not requesting charity, neither do I offer it.

You can find me easily in google searches, as jcomeau, jcomeau_ictx, or jcomeauictx. There are lots of other jcomeaus, but AFAIK I'm the only jcomeau_ictx out there so far.

If you want to comment on anything you see here, try the new Facebook comments, reachable by clicking the "[comment]" link at the end of each post. If for some reason that isn't working, go ahead and email me, jc.unternet.net. You know what to do with the first dot. Make the 'subject' line something reasonably intelligent-looking or it goes plunk! into the spambasket unread.

This RSS feed may or may not work. Haven't fiddled with it in forever. RSS Feed

My solar setup is working out well so far, but there is a constant stream of nulls showing on the console as ^@, which is actually being seen as coming from the keyboard, noise from the buck converter. I have to disconnect the power when rebooting, long enough to login and startx, then can plug it back in. [comment]

Maybe I need to rename my blog something like Misadventures of an Incontinent Wanderer. Got down to the waterfront late with my paddleboard, had to pee really bad, and the restrooms at Walnut Park were locked. But I asked at the movie theater, and they let me use theirs. Got back to the yacht club and there wasn't much twilight remaining, so I just paddled around to the land side of the dock and tied it up. Maybe I'll wake up early and get a paddle in.

After that hour or so of coughing early Saturday morning, my symptoms quickly improved. I ended my self-imposed quarantine this morning. [comment]

I woke up coughing about 0400 local time. It lasted less than an hour, stopping after a small sip of that potent kraut-garlic juice. That stuff made me nauseous for what felt like a few minutes this time. Maybe I need to dilute it. [comment]

Using probiotics (sauerkraut, its juice, and yogurt) I managed to keep the disease from progressing all day yesterday, but overnight it got worse, and I was on the verge of a cough. So I just kept going back to sleep until the throat improved. Drank a small sip of kraut juice from the container to which I added garlic yesterday. It tasted great at first, then for almost a minute I thought I was going to puke. But I didn't, and now I'm drinking my first cup of coffee for the day. I don't have much in the way of food, but maybe that's OK. [comment]

Yesterday my teeth had a dull pain, which could of course be anything, but last night my nasal mucosa started becoming inflamed. And this morning it's starting to enter my throat.

I found out Tuesday that I had been exposed to covid at the Ciclovía on Sunday, so I'd better assume that's what I've got. Going to hit it hard with probiotics. I don't have any Ivermectin this time, and I'm unlikely to be able to get it. [comment]
